OSI Food Solutions Spain plant has added its production-line to boost its production of chicken products. The Spain plant was expanded at the cost of 17 million euros and is located in Toledo. The production of chicken is expected to double after the expansion of the plant. Before the expansion, the plant was producing 12,000 tons of chicken products. The expansion of this plant has added the total output of the OSI Group. It is estimated that the company will have a total output of over 45,000 tons of chicken, pork and beef products produced annually. The expansion is also expected to benefit not only the company but also the people through the creation of more job opportunities. The expansion will see the company add 320 more workers to the 140 who were already working in the plant.
The expansion was necessitated by a study that showed that demand for chicken products in Spain and Portugal was going up. According to an official of the OSI Group in Spain, the demand for chicken products in these two countries had gone up by eight percent in just the three years he has been in power. OSI Group is preparing itself to deal with the expansion that is coming up. To remain as the top company globally, they must fill in all the gaps left by an increase in demand.
In the new addition, OSI Group added 22,600 square feet of space. Part of the areas they expanded to include shipping and receiving, storage, cooling rooms and hot water among others. The company has also added another testing kitchen for improving its products. According to the chief operating officer of the company, David McDonald, the expansion is meant to make the company grow with the changes in the industry. As the COO of the OSI group, he is happy with the progress that was being made especially in adding the job opportunities. Sheldon Lavin is the CEO of the company and has also played a significant role in the growth of the company.
OSI Group has been in expansion mode for quite some time now. In the local U.S market, they acquired one of the largest food production plants formerly owned by Tyson Foods. Another followed the acquisition in Europe in 2016. OSI Group acquired Baho Foods, a Dutch food company and Flagship Europe which has now been renamed “Creative Foods.” OSI Group now has a huge presence in Europe which forms a large basket of the food market.
